The Baton Rouge Sigma Foundation was incorporated in January 1991 to facilitate community outreach programs to enhance the lives of women and children. The Foundation obtained its 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status in 1995.  The Foundation is dedicated to formulating, sponsoring, and conducting cultural, educational, charitable and/or human relations projects to meet specific community needs.  Its primary, but not exclusive purposes are:

            (1) to be a revenue source for students to continue his or her studies at a secondary,
                 post-secondary school or university;

            (2) to provide the resources necessary to fill gaps in service as it relates to educational
                 enrichment / achievement, human relations, cultural, and health / fitness;

            (3) to provide resources to advocate for an improved socio-economic environment in the
                 targeted community; and

            (4) to provide the physical facilities which are needed for community-based meetings and
                  events.

The Foundation extends its program offerings into the community primarily from its corporate office, the Life Development Center, at 688 Harding Boulevard.  This beautiful facility is located adjacent to the historic campus of Southern University.  It is the first facility constructed by a Louisiana chapter of Delta Sigma Theta.

The Foundation was recently chosen as one of forty community-based and faith-based organizations to participate in the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organization's (LANO) Rural Capacity Academy (RCA). RCA is funded by the Compassion Capitol Fund Grant LANO received from the US Department of Health and Human Services. For the next three years, RCA participants will work with the LANO staff to strengthen their organizational capacity.  The Foundation will be able to compete for sub-awards to assist with program planning and organizational development.
